Joy At The Upsetting End Of A Season

Joy+At+The+Upsetting+End+Of+A+Season

With a year of great development and tremendous Improvement in team chemistry, injuries, and playing down to the level of other teams, the Prairie Girls soccer team found their season cut shorter than expected.  Prairie Girl Soccer had many highs this year as well as some lows, but most of all improvements from last year. when asking team captains senior Maddie Thorson and sophomore Mya Toguchi about how they saw the team grow this year they both said all the girls got along well and encouraged each other consistently and learned to play for each other more.

At the end of the season, the team was 5-2-1 and 4-0 in League Spring Prairie to the 2023 League Champs. going into playoffs the team needed one win to move on to State and that’s when the struggles started to form. Maddie Thorson said, “We didn’t play our game and made stupid mistakes along with not being able to capitalize on our attacks as well as lots of injuries that required healthy players to play for longer amounts of time and in more positions.¨

In playoffs, they saw teams that were harder and more difficult to play Mya said regular season games are usually high-scoring games whereas playoff games are much more high-intensity as well as more important since 1 loss and you’re done and at the end of the year we lost our momentum and lost Focus causing us to not play our best.¨

Going on from this year Mya Toguchi looks forward to seeing the team and what it becomes seeing the new skills that people develop and giving it another shot at state.

Lastly, Maddie Thorson who has been On the Prairie varsity team all four years talked about what the team meant to her “ Prairie soccer has meant the most to me in many ways it taught me leadership and how to play with more versatility. what I want to leave behind is an impact of determination and grit for those and the rest of the teams to carry on
