Prairie high school students share their favorite holiday songs to get ready for holiday spirit this winter.
Every year, as soon as December rolls around, Christmas music begins to fill homes, stores and cars. Even though everyone has different tastes, especially in music, there are always a few songs that manage to top the others as holiday favorites. These songs continue being popular because of the cozy atmosphere they create, memories they bring back, and bring joy of the season.
One of the most cherished and loved Christmas songs is “Jingle bells” by James Pierpoint. Even though this is one of the most commonly listened to songs during Christmas, it still becomes a hit yearly. This is proven at Prairie High School because out of the 65 students I asked, 33 of them agreed that jingle bells is their favorite holiday song. When speaking to Griffin Smith, a student at Prairie, he says that jingle bells are his favorite because “It’s so traditional and brings back childhood memories.” Since Griffin says his favorite holiday is Christmas, he adds that “Jingle bells puts me in the Christmas spirit and I listen to it often.”
Another classic that was voted best by 18 out of 65 students is “Last Christmas” by Wham! It’s a mix of a catchy melody with a story. As student, Marcella Clark says, “It’s a catchy tune that brings back the holiday feels.” As Clark also adds, “I listen to this song every morning to start my day positively.”
