Prairie high school holds many different important events in a year: Sports games, Assemblies, after school events, senior events, field trips, and much more. Most of these important pieces of a year are recorded and looked into by the yearly yearbook, made by the yearbook students and staff to keep record of everything that happens in a year, as well as things like students. But how is the yearbook produced? And why do many find it so important to get one?
Yearbooks are generally worked on by students who choose to forecast for one of the Yearbook periods. These students are given many different roles in yearbook creation, from designing the cover or pages to capturing photos of events to getting quotes or interviews from those involved. It is a long, but fun, process for many who choose it, and it helps to involve you in the school and what it has to offer more.
Student staff had many different responsibilities. “I worked as the photography editor,” Senior and Yearbook Staff Will Moutrie said in regards to his role, of many, in the yearbook production. “Preparing cameras for the staff to use. I also edited and uploaded photos for the staff to use on their pages.”
For students on the other side, yearbooks are a fun and easy way to keep events, clubs, sports, or people that they had a connection with. It effectively captures the biggest pictures in a given section, highlighting the excitement, struggles, or importance of specific activities. It also can be used as a remembrance of people, students or staff, who the owner deems important.
Students enjoy the yearbook for many reasons. “Probably the sports part of the yearbook,” Junior Kaylee Newton, an owner of the yearbook, said in regards to her favorite parts. “I just feel like the pictures are good and it captures the big moments well.”
Overall, the production and the finished yearbook both hold importance to those involved with it. It not only engages students with extracurriculars and events outside of normal classes or hours, but gives students who wish a full, detailed record of the year and its accomplishments.
