We’ve all experienced the sensation, your first day in high school, the fear of not being able to find your new classes, meeting new people, and thinking about how we will shape into the fine young adults that our future’s perceive.
Highschool is like a new world to some individuals and always comes with surprising new things everyday, whether it’s finding new peers or figuring out you actually do enjoy a subject you were unsure of forecasting for. Take advantage of your new opportunities, don’t wait around for things to just happen, HOSA President Senior Payton Miller states, “ Be a participant in your high school because that makes your experience here a lot more entertaining and fun, and you feel like you’re in the culture.”
Being a part of your school’s culture is an important aspect of growing not only as a student but as a community. Some people like to participate in sports to better themselves as individuals and to hopefully create future opportunities in athletics. However, not everyone is a sports fanatic, Senior Kayla Rhodes mentions this about clubs and extracurricular activities, “ Absolutely do it, because the reason why I gained so many friends is because of the fact that I tried new things like clubs and stuff and that’s where you get all of these connections that you’ll hopefully have later on in life.” These connections are essential parts of having an enjoyable and memorable high school experience.
As new opportunities to grow as individuals are presented following high school there are some hidden opportunities that could act as foundation for what’s coming in the future. These are things like building good habits, like creating routines to follow that help you stay on track, turning your work in on time and being able to figure out what works best for you. In the opinion of Senior Max Hennerty, “ Being ready for the next day and having all of my work as well as my materials ready, has been super beneficial to me this year and is a routine I think people should implement.”
Leaving with that, do yourself the favor of trying to create good habits for they will only help you succeed as a person and can be applied to things outside of school in your near future. Be a part of your community whether that’s here at Prairie or someplace different down the road ahead, don’t hesitate to ask for help and reach out to people for that creates connections which can last a lifetime. It truly does fly by, so don’t wait to make the most out of high school, be yourself, work hard and be kind, for this is the only 4 years you have before the real world.
