The librarians expect all highschoolers to keep the library clean and follow the rules this year and beyond. The library is a quiet safe place and most staff and students would like to keep it that way. This behavior popping up is affecting a circle of people, not only the librarians. Stay mindful falcons!
The biggest reminder the librarians have to use is push in your chair. This is embarrassing considering almost every highschooler is capable of doing so. Speaking with Lauren she tells me,” Today there was an apple core left on the table, like an eaten apple core left on the table, that Robin had to throw away and I had to wipe the table.” Now ask yourself would you like to clean up after someone else’s eaten slobbered up food? If your answer is no, which is most likely then don’t do it to someone else and clean up after yourselves!
All that is wished by Robin and Lauren is that the library be used for its intended purposes. They want kids to have a quiet work place, books to read, and computers to work on when needed. They love when students come in and chat a little bit or come for lunch but students need to understand it is also a classroom setting and the same rules apply in the library and that should be more valued. These lovely ladies support so many people in the school and they deserve some reciprocation.
The librarians have been very generous when it comes to consequences and shown plenty of mercy but it’s a drag and Lauren states, “ Well it makes us have to pick up after them and we are not their parents. They are high schoolers and old enough to know to push in your chair, clean up your garbage, and clear your areas.” The mercy does not last long, however here are some possible consequences if bad behavior keeps repeating. You could perchance be temporarily banned from the library, you could get a referral, or you could even get lunch detention. To avoid this, be kind and mindful of our surroundings.
Just as any working person the librarians deserve basic human treatment at the least and an understanding they have a job to fulfill and are doing just that. The rules are really simple: be respectful, don’t be loud, no food, and push in your chair before you leave.Never forget a pass or evidence of permission! And don’t forget falcons, it should only take you 5 minutes to look for a book!
