The season of joy has fallen upon us, Christmas is a time of year where families get together and celebrate a time of giving and spreading kindness to all. Many families like to participate in Christmas traditions, whether it’s going Christmas caroling, having a big family gathering, or even leaving cookies and milk out for Santa! There’s many traditions to partake in, so whatever you may do, be sure to spread the joy of Christmas.
Christmas is an annual religious holiday celebrated on December 25th, however others may celebrate during different times in December. It’s been a holiday in the United States since 1870. Did you know that in the middle ages Christmas celebrations weren’t as fancy nor calm as they are today? Yet more rough and rowdy. Today, there are many ways people like to celebrate the holiday season, some folks like to decorate their homes with festive decorations or bake delicious treats. However there are more traditions during Christmas than that. Prairies front desk receptionist Stephanie Brown’s family has their own ways of celebrating the holidays, “One tradition we always do every year is go out to dinner and watch the Christmas lightships on the river.” This tradition occurs locally in Vancouver WA every year where ships parade along the Columbia and Willamette river and is a festive sight to see if you have the chance!
Families have their own unique traditions which is a part of what makes Christmas so special to a person, whether it’s giving gifts to family and friends, decorating a Christmas tree, or going to look at Christmas lights in your neighborhood, they all bring joy and spread Christmas spirit.
Some traditions however may revolve around being at home, One of Mia Hasselblad’s family traditions is, “We like to watch Christmas movies on Christmas eve and make gingerbread houses.” This fun tradition is a festive way to bring your family and friends together to celebrate the Christmas and Holiday season.
