At the start of second semester, Prairie High School flight time on Wednesday will no longer be a thing, but we will only have flight time on Tuesdays and Thursdays for now on. This change will not only affect students but also teachers with clubs. Some understand the change, but others are missing the extra day.
Falcon flight time has always been an important part of the school day at Prairie. It gives students time to get extra help, finish homework, and prepare for tests or retake or have missed a test and even join a club. Many students used Wednesday as their club and chill day from all the school stress. But for those students who used that extra day to study, they thought it was more challenging.
Student Violet Memurtury shared her thoughts on the change:“ I prefer the normal two days, but three was just over obsessive and with the half days and short days. Monday is a day to think and prepare before Tuesday, so it’s good to have the day before Thursday to do the same.” Violet explains that she misses the third day, but it also makes sense to have Wednesday off to help prepare and think about where to go and what class needs more attention.
Teachers with clubs have mixed feelings about the new schedule, but also understand the change. Mr. Root explains:“ conflictive feelings about the change because of clubs, but also understand because the time that has been lost in the classroom” Wednesday gave students to be more active in school and socialize with other students. The Wednesdays actually help with the clubs that they expanded more than most people thought. Now with the new change, Tuesday and Thursday are the dates of the new clubs and will be posted on the announcements the day.
Overall, the new Falcon flight time schedule has brought mixed feelings to Prairie High School, among students and teachers. Some people have mixed feelings about the change, some wonder if it’ll be better with just two days, or whether it will be chaos. While some actually like the two days to plan and think about where to go next and what needs help. But with the change, it does have some challenges and setbacks; clubs. Since they are now moved to work days, what will happen, and will it be easier or harder to decide?
