As a teen getting involved in local politics is beneficial to get a better understanding of how politics will be like when you are older. Politics is everywhere and gaining knowledge on the political world determines the opinions and choices you will make when getting to vote on something that will impact everyone.
There are many different ways to get involved in politics starting with understanding it and understanding the problems going on in your community. Emilia Mendoza, a legally registered voter in Washington state claims “reading local news like “ The Columbian”, or “ The Washington Post” helps with informing yourself on events happening around us”.
Teens of ages 18+ are at an age where they can join unions working on political campaigns. Emilia started out with reading and then research. “ Since I didn’t know much alone I started googling political terminology so I could better understand what I was talking about and that led me to being more informed and wanting to learn more.” To be involved in politics, teens should be aware and open to news, research about things you do not understand, and try to join events that will help understanding (unions, marches).
