Athletic director Manny Melo introducing the seven athletes who are signing to play at a collegiate level.

On April 12th, 2023 at 8:30 am, signing day was held in the Prairie High School commons for athletes who are continuing their athletic careers at a collegiate level. 7 athletes participated, and there was a great turnout of friends and family to support their signing athletes.

Ben Kapelka, Nate Phong, Kuulei DeBest, Cassidy Meade, Abby Hill, Cali Turgliatto, and Trenten Harker were all of the athletes who signed. Kapelka will be playing football at Portland State University, and Phong playing at Pacific Lutheran University. DeBest and Harker are going to Clark Community College, DeBest to play volleyball and Harker to play soccer. Meade and Hill are going to Southwestern Oregon Community College to play soccer together, and Turliato is playing soccer at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Phong and Debest both said that their signing day experience was fun and it felt good to have their friends and family watch them sign. They are both excited to play in college and to make new friendships.

Athletic Director, Manny Melo, says that signing day is an awesome experience and opportunity for these athletes. Melo states that he tries his best to make this atmosphere feel “like family.” Melo says that signing day is a fun celebration, and even brings a speaker to play music, sets up a backdrop and table, and tells the signing athletes to “reach out and invite as many people as they want.”
