Mr.Root is teacher of the week at Prairie High School for his funny personality, understanding ways, and being a caring teacher overall. He is known around school as a jolly man who is always smiling. He has flexibility with his students to help them. He is also known as a busy man with a lot on his hands. Balancing all of that, Root stays optimistic through it all.
Something you could hear throughout campus is Mr. Root’s contagious laugh of his and those that surround him. His humor is truly well-known throughout the school and many like to peep in just to chat with him. Emily Thompson, a student in his 4th period describes him as, “ Loud, funny, and smart.” With that Abigail Caldwell gave her favorite qualities about him are and she responded, “ I like that he’s funny, I like that he interacts with the students in a non-teachery way. He’s just super friendly and he’s fun to be around.” He’s a very social teacher and interacts with everybody. Many students agree he is a very easy-going person that’s very entertaining and keeps the class going.
His classroom is a safe space to be yourself and will shut down any negatively very quickly. He tries to keep his classes uplifted, motivated, and on task as much as he can. He is a teacher of compromise and won’t assert authority or give you demands, however he will workout a choice that can make everyone as happy as possible, he is not one to force. Abby speaks on what being in his class is like, she states, “ It’s fun it doesn’t make me hate math as much as I used too because he’s just so fun and like relatable.” He tries to make class time as bearable as possible because he cares and understands math is hard.
Mr.Root also has his flaws as all teachers but takes accountability for it pretty well. He’s known to be a bit messy and unorganized but still he gets the job done. Supporting this Emily says, “ He’s a really good person but isn’t organized.” Students also have many concerns about whether or not they would pass this class because math to majority is not easy nor a favorite. Not only is the class hard itself but Mr.Root is really busy in class, falcon support, and in some parts of the year after school too. Many students do not get all the help they need and lose motivation. If he is able for help outside of school it is not always accessible to all and really leaves a student in a stuck position. Root’s students just wish he had a bit more time and freedom to be fully invested into the class as it being one of the hardest known. Root is pretty understanding and is giving an effort to keep trying to be better for his students.
In all he’s very social and lively. Students have frustrations with him but if you work on it with him those can be helped. Don’t forget Falcons your teachers cannot read your minds you need to speak up.
