Prairie High School’s spirit weeks are always an event to look forward to, but this upcoming spirit week has interest piqued around the school. The word describing the new Spirit Week would have to be “Inclusive.”

Spirit Week falls under ASB responsibility, meaning the students are in charge. This month, leadership students were put into committees to complete their tasks for the upcoming December activities.

When asked about their goals for the spirit week, the spirit week committee leads had a common goal of “Inclusivity” and “community.” Committee lead Leena Dang expressed more on how the spirit days are “Keeping the students in mind and keeping everyone’s situations in mind. Not everyone has the accessibility to just buy a costume or just buy clothes that they’re only going to wear once.”

The Spirit Week committee has also been leaning towards more vague themes, in which students have more than the option just to dress up. Days like Sleepover day, which students and staff can choose from wearing comfy clothes and PJs, or bringing a stuffed animal or a blanket. Having more than one option on how students can participate increases the chances of them doing so.

When asked about inspiration for the Spirit Day themes Leena Dang said “We like to take our inspiration from social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Just what’s popular at the moment and what’s trending.”

Taking trends and social media presence into account has previously helped with participation, days like “Anything but a Backpack Day, and Adam Sandler Day were received very well because they were trending.” Additionally giving the students a say in the theme has also increased popularity and participation, according to Leena, the committee “Sends QR codes for students to submit ideas first and then narrow those down.”

With Spirit Week coming up just before Christmas break, the themes are….

 -Monday PJ day

– Tuesday Sweater vs Puffer

– Wednesday Winter Gear

– Thurs Happy Feet Day (dress as a penguin or wear fuzzy socks)

– Friday Color Wars

Hopefully, this new refreshing, and creative outlook will bring students together using school spirit.
