With a month into the new year 2026, it is tradition to make new year resolutions. New year resolutions are goals individuals make for themselves to start the year fresh and let go of old negative things from the last year. New year’s resolutions consist of goals like making new friends, studying more, waking up earlier, or saving money, things that will impact you positively for the year.
Dana Vasquez Carillo, Senior at Prairie Highschool had a new years resolution to start working out more. “ Usually when the new year starts I make 2 long term goals as my new year’s resolution and one of them is to be more active, so far I have actually been sticking to it which is pretty great.” Dana is one of 5 people who so far is actually sticking to their goal.
Setting new years goals is easy but acting them out can be challenging. Alyson Sanchez-Lopez had a new year’s goal of reading more books. “ I wanted to set a goal for reading more because I want a bigger vocabulary, and sometimes some books are super good but I haven’t been keeping up with it just because I have been so busy with work and other activities inside and outside of school.” Alyson is one of the 5 people who did not end up sticking to their new years goals. Most students are busy and already have good habits so not sticking to a new years resolution is not a big deal as the years are long with plenty of time to offer.
