As February comes closer to an end, testing season can bring stress and pressure for many students at Prairie high school. Big exams and daily quizzes can cause anxiety if students don’t know how to manage it. The staff of prairie high school have shared some simple strategies and courage to build confidence during testing.
One of the most important strategies is preparation. Studying ahead of time, organizing notes and avoiding last-minute cramming can help students feel more control. Ms Landrea, head of the testing department, emphasized that there is no single method that works for everyone. “It depends, everyone is different. Study on the topic, be prepared, plenty of sleep, good food, whatever helps you focus” she mentions.
Taking care of your body is also a key to managing stress. Getting enough sleep, eating a balanced meal, and taking short breaks while studying help keep the brain alert. When students are exhausted or hungry, stress can feel much worse. Simple habits like going to bed early or drinking water during study sessions can improve focus and reduce stress and test anxiety.
Confidence has a major role during testing as well. Ms Landrea reminds students to be kind to themselves and remember their abilities to do their test. “One main thing is you’re a human being. We doubt ourselves, sit back, stay confident, you got this and you’ve done harder things.” she said. Positive selftalk and deep breathing before a test can help calm racing thoughts.
Teachers also have encouraged students to keep tests in perspective. Math teacher Mr.Root reminds students that support is always available. “Reminding them you’ve done the work, you have your notes, youtube and google are available to study and retake and remember it’s not the end of the world,” he said. With the right mindsets, preparation and support, students can manage stress and approach testing with confidence instead of fear.
