Senior Students Max Hennerty and Adisyn Lowry debate whether homework is a valuable source of learning or demotivating. They both share their perspectives by giving insight on how it impacts learning and student motivation.
Hennerty believes homework is beneficial because he exclaims that, “ It is applicable in things that we learn, but sometimes the homework students receive doesn’t feel like they quite understand the lesson or what is going on in class, therefore makes them non-motivated to do the work outside of class.”
This proves students that sides with the idea to ban homework shows their lack of commitment to learning. The standard of homework should help students develop skills.
If homework were banned Hennerty says, “ The best to replace homework with is providing review videos of lessons at home without being in class in order to retain information on your own time.”
Lowry views homework positively, “Homework applies to what we learn in school, which helps us practice more, especially when it is best used when there’s harder classes like labs and other harder complex classes.”
She strongly advocates homework as a learning and development tool. If homework were banned, her idea is, “I feel like in class activities that involve hands-on learning is good.”
Max Hennerty and Adisyn Lowry both agree that homework can be beneficial with balance.
