Should school at Prairie Highschool start later? Students give their opinions on how the schedule works for them or if they think it should start later.
Here at Prairie Highschool the start time for classes is at 7:55am. Students are here around 7:30-7:45 most waking up at around 6am getting ready for school.
3 of 6 interviewed students said school shouldn’t start later while the other 3 said that school should start later. Rosemary Pereza, a cheerleader and senior student at Prairie, likes how the schedule is now, considering the activities she’s involved with in and outside of school she still has time to herself. “ If school started later it would also end later which would have a big impact on my study time, work, and sleep.”
Other students wish the school started later claiming that school starts too early. Aiden Martinez, junior student at Prairie Highschool thinks that the schedule should be like it is on late start Wednesdays. “ I think it should start later but only an hour like on Wednesdays. It would give me more time to sleep and it also wouldn’t take much time out of the day.”
Should school start later? Half of six students said yes and half said no with their answers being completely reasonable. While starting school later would accommodate some students it seems like the schedule Prairie Highschool has right now works well and is manageable for everyone including students with many activities.
