A day in the life of custodians Brandon Lengavine and Monika Lenz at Prairie High School after the levy in April 2025 failed to pass.
Custodians have plenty of work to do by certain times. Brandon’s schedule is in 2 parts from 5am to 7 he is already done with most of his schedule including breaks and lunch, then from the time breakfast is done which is around 7:55 he starts his second part of his schedule where he finishes at 1:30 and heads home.
Monika’s schedule is different she comes in at the end of school around 2:30, she attends a meeting and then starts cleaning the 900 building, the kitchens, main gym, middle gym, upstair gymnastics room and locker rooms including bathrooms “ Sometimes that takes a while, the boys are throwing chocolate milk or apples against the wall…”
Custodians face a lot of challenges throughout their shift. “It’s challenging to smile all day and be polite to everyone when I’m being pulled in so many directions at any given time.” Since the levy in April 2025 failed to pass “ We have had to take on the work of the 2 custodians that left, its a lot more work for us”.The levy failed making more work for the custodians but students could help make it better by treating the school “as if it were their home”, dumping liquids outside, picking up after themselves and having overall respect for our school property.
