On November 3rd, from 5-7 PM, Prairie hosted its very own College and Career fair, something it had been already doing for the past few years. The yearly event aimed to showcase students things they could work to do or prepare for after high school – whether it be 4 year Colleges, Apprenticeships, Trade schools, or more, Prairie was sure to make the event as open and inviting to students and families alike.
The event invited and showcased Representatives for Colleges, Militaries, and more to inform, entice, and invite students to explore the options they were in and representing. Students could walk up to their respective stands to learn more about what they would teach you, what occupations relate to those teachings, and how it may help you in your everyday life. Students were also encouraged to write contact information on things they had found intriguing to stay in touch with the Careers or Colleges they were interested in.
The event wasn’t just fun for the guests, though– the hosts enjoyed it as well. “My favorite thing is just the energy of the event and everybody showing up and getting to visit about their futures,” Catherine Davis, a career counselor who helped set up the fair said in regard to what she liked about it. “And just watching them makes the experience a whole lot better.”
The event is used to allow students to speak to representatives with connections to Colleges and Programs they may be interested in that aren’t easily accessible to contact otherwise. It is also hosted to provide students with other opportunities and ideas for their future that they may have not considered before.
Students gained a lot from the experience. “I would absolutely go again,” Sophomore Brody Judkins, an attendant of the College and Career Fair said in regards to going next year. “Its a great opportunity to meet employers, talk to them about your wishes for the future, your goals, and, like, how their programs or schools might help you fulfill those goals and get better.”
Overall, the experience brought students information, suggestions, and possibilities for the future they may not find otherwise. Prairies College and Career Fair continued to be a success this year in that criteria.
