For many gamers, Fortnite was more than just a video game, it made a way for many children’s excitement. Known as “Prime Fortnite,” the games’ peak produced many seasons, live events, and memories that players still cherish. Griffin Smith, who has been playing Fortnite since the game’s July 2017 release, recalls Prime Fortnite as a period when the game felt less competitive and more fun. 

Smith compared Fortnite’s current gameplay to its peak, saying, “Everything everyone knew and loved was removed from the game.” “The game just got too competitive overall.” Smith claimed that Season 7 of Prime Fortnite was his favorite, listing the map changes and the Christmas season as factors that improved the game. He responded, “Nostalgic, memories,fun,” when asked to sum up Prime Fortnite in three words. 

Jarell Jones, another Prime Fortnite player, also talked about his time playing Fortnite at the games peak. When Fortnite was the hottest game out, Jones played Fortnite almost everyday. According to him, Season 7 was also when the game was at its peak.”It was a lot of fun to play Fortnite in its prime,” Jones answered. He explained that people’s nostalgia for Prime Fortnite comes from the game’s great events and updates during that 5 year period of the game being at its peak. It shaped a generation of players. 

Fortnite was well-known for its live in-game concerts, which at the time were a new idea. According to Jones, the first Fortnite concert was amazing since it was something players had never seen before, but the following concerts and live events were not as good in comparison to the first couple events. Both players agree that Fortnite’s accessibility and social nature made Fortnite the game it was. According to Smith, Fortnite was more enjoyable than other games at the time because “everyone was playing it and how easy it was for people to get the game since it’s free.” Jones explained that regular updates were the key to Fortnite’s success when asked if the game would remain as popular if it never changed with updates and map changes. Regardless that Fortnite has changed over the years, players who played Prime Fortnite will never forget it. Many people connect it with the exciting updates, late nights spent with friends, and the memories that we will carry with us forever.
