Five lucky Seniors at Prairie High School are enjoying free Dutch Bros this week, thanks to a raffle that rewarded them for completing their High School Beyond plan on time. The High School and Beyond plan is not just another assignment; it’s a Washington State graduation requirement designed to help students prepare for their future after High School.
To encourage timely completion, Mrs. Miller from the career center came up with a fun incentive; a raffle. Students who completed their High School Beyond plan by November 1st, 2025, were entered into a drawing to win one of five $5 Dutch Bros gift cards. The winners Cameela Passe, Adison Lowry, Olivia Straw, Madison Macy, and Jayden Ramos were announced on November 17th on the morning announcements.
“Yeah, so it came about because I wanted to reward students that met the deadline rather than trying to punish the students that didn’t. So I wanted to have some kind of fun incentive.” Mrs. Miller said. “ And so that really was my goal, that if I put this insensitivity out there, that more people would complete the high school and Beyond planned by the goal”.
From a student’s perspective, the raffle presented clear motivation, essentially offering a reward. And not only that receive credit for completion. “They’re essentially bribing students to get something free for reward,” said High School senior Kaylie Perkins. “ And with that it gets something done” By offering a reward, the initiative acknowledges the many demands on students’ time and provides an extra nudge to prioritize assignment completion ultimately benefiting both the students and the career center staff.
The choice of Dutch Bros as a prize was a hit with students. “ It was an amazing choice as I always see kids holding Dutch Bros drinks in the halls,” said Kaylie Perkins. It furthermore motivated many students to wrap the high school beyond plan.
Congratulations again to the winners! This raffle not only rewarded students for their hard work but also highlighted the importance of planning life after graduation.
