Faith Tarrant, once again, winning state champion!

11 of Prairie High School’s best wrestlers were sent off to the Tacoma dome on February 16th to wrestle for the next two days in efforts to clinch a placement at state.

Five of them brought back a state placement, one of the five earning the title of a 2-time state champion. Faith Tarrant, a sophomore, earned the nickname “Two time Tarrant” after the state tournament. As a freshman, Tarrant took the state title for the first time. This season she proved herself once again, earning a second state title for the 235-pound weight class. When asked if she felt pressure going into this season after a stellar first year, she stated “Yes, I felt a lot of
pressure.” Tarrant plans to keep working hard and keep a level head to keep her state title streak alive.

A senior, Alex Ford, earned 2nd place for the 170-pound weight class at the Tacoma dome this season. Going into state this year, Ford says he was “nervous, but confident he would place second.” After earning the state title his junior year, he felt lots of pressure going into his senior season. He stated he “kind of felt like everyone expected me to do it again.” Since Ford had wrestled this year’s champion before, he said he wasn’t disappointed with the outcome. He had lots of support and confidence from his coaches which helped Ford during all of his matches.

Mason Frei, a junior this year, is in the 160-pound weight class and took 4th place. Frei says he felt pretty good and had confidence going into state this year. To prepare for state this season, Frei showed up to practice every day, ate healthily, and was staying active on the weekends. The junior says that state is “very stressful”, but he’s going to work hard in the off-season for next year. Seth Blick and Aaliyah Young, both juniors, also placed this year. Blick placed 8th and Young placed 3rd in their weight divisions.
