Prairie High School is excited to introduce its new baseball coach, Robert Haensel. With over 30 years of coaching experience at various levels, Coach Haensel is ready to lead the Falcons and make this season one to remember.
Coach Haensel’s main focus this year is to help each player improve their skills on the field while also developing into strong young men. He states, “My goal this year is to help every athlete in the program develop their baseball skills as well as become better young men.” Additionally, he plans to restore the PHS field to top condition, aiming to make it one of the best natural surface venues in the county.
Having coached from T-Ball to college players, Coach Haensel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. His coaching journey has taken him to places like Richfield and Moses Lake. “This is year 32 of coaching, covering the full spectrum of athletes,” he shares, emphasizing his readiness for the upcoming season.
Throughout his career, Coach Haensel has been inspired by many mentors, especially the late Pete Doumit. “He was my mentor for 20 years before his passing,” Haensel remembers. The lessons learned from Doumit, along with guidance from coaches Ed McNamara and Quintz Whitaker, have helped shape his coaching philosophy—focused on building relationships and mentoring young athletes.
Coach Haensel believes this season is different from previous years. “I get to put my stamp on this program,” he says, excited to continue the legacy of talented coaches and players who have come before him. He plans to introduce new routines and systems that will help the team grow and succeed.
He’s grateful for the support he’s received over his coaching career, especially from his family. “Without mentoring from Pete Doumit, Ed McNamara, and Quintz Whitaker, I wouldn’t have the skills needed to connect with players,” he explains. His wife’s support is also vital, understanding that coaching often requires time away from family.
During the interview process with the Prairie High School athletic director, Haensel’s enthusiasm was evident. The athletic director noted, “He was really excited about what he could bring to the program this year.” Everett Klodt. explained With previous head coaching experience and a passion for the game, Haensel is confident he can lead the Falcons to a successful season.
