Surprise Snow Days At Prairie High School

After a big snowfall in February 2023, Prairie High School had to shut everything down for three days and it seemed no one knew when we would go back.

Starting February 22, 2023, Prairie students and teachers got their first day off of school. The snow continued, and so did everyone’s “day off”, until February 24th. Mrs. Woehr, Prairie’s Principal, says that these days set back schedules for teachers, meetings, student-run clubs, drama productions, and more. To make up for these missed days, Woehr says that all students “will attend a built-in snow day on March 17th”, and at the end of the year, grades 9-11 will attend school for two more days than originally planned.

Eme Cecil, a junior at Prairie, says that she doesn’t like making snow days up, and only likes the days off due to snow for a couple of days. A lot of students may find it hard to find the motivation to go back to school after these fun days off, but Cecil said she’s “ready to go back to school after days off”.

A food class teacher at Prairie, Mr. Pedlar says that snow days can put his classroom behind schedule, especially because his students deal with food. Pedlar isn’t too worried about this, and states “there’s always tomorrow.”

With Prairie’s plan to make these days up in place, students and teachers should have no trouble finishing out the school year on a high note.
