Cory Hill, a Prairie High School social studies teacher, graduated from our rival school, Battle Ground High School. After a couple years, Hill began to enjoy and accept Prairie High School as his new home. After his education finished at Battle Ground High School, Hill decided to get his associates degree at Clark College, also playing soccer. He then transferred to Western Washington University for 2 years getting his history major. He then attended the University of New Castle in Australia for 6 months, completing his abroad school program. Hill enjoyed the different beaches and areas he was able to surf in and experienced such a different culture while he was in Australia.Hill states that “It was the most amazing experience of his life”. After he came back from Australia, he got his teaching degree.
Hill sparked his interest in social students because he has always loved learning about modern day events. He has always had a passion for understanding the deeper meanings of modern day events and historical events that occurred. When he got to college, he was really inspired by the books that he read, which went more in depth about the different specific history events that happened. He always will appreciate college for making him enjoy a subject that he never thought he would ever enjoy
Hill grew up in the area, knowing a lot about Washginton and what it has to offer. He heard about Prairie High School, and decided to give it a shot. He started student teaching with Patty Alway, a current history and journalism teacher at Prairie High School. Hill loves the students he has and the amazing staff that he works with. Over his 13 years of teaching at Prairie High School, he appreciates that students are always willing to talk and engage in his class. Hill hopes that students “ see history from multiple perspectives “ and to “ always keep an open mind ”.
Lyla Williams, a Prairie High School senior, took his class, AP World History, her sophomore year of high school. She enjoyed his class a lot and found that his teaching style was different from any other teacher that she has had. She enjoyed the strong and heavy work environment that he brought to class and Williams appreciates the different activities you do each day. Williams states that “ I should take more AP classes for a better experience and to gain more knowledge in the subject”. Hill’s class inspired her to gain a better understanding about simpler topics and to always challenge herself.
