Steven Bjornstad, a Prairie High School social studies teacher, has always been rivals with Prairie High School (PHS), attending Columbia River in his younger years. Bjonrstad never expected to love the environment and fun nature that Prairie had to offer.
Bjornstad started his younger years at Columbia River High School, also playing basketball as a school sport. He then attended Washington State University, getting his bachelor’s degree in history and social studies education. Soon after, Bjornstad decided to take an online course to obtain his masters degree in curriculum and education from Western Governor University
Bjornstad chose to come to Prairie because he knew that PHS was an amazing school and the culture was phenomenal. He thrived to be a part of that culture and environment, so he took the job as a teacher at Prairie High School. Bjornstad never regrets his decision and is proud to say that he has been teaching at PHS for a solid 11 years of his career, mostly teaching social studies classes
Bjornstad loves the environment that PHS brings to him, having very respectful students and staff surrounding him everyday. He appreciates the respect the students bring to him. Bjornstand has many mottos that he lives by, but he always reminds his students that “effort is free”. “We all have hard days, we all have good days, but effort is a choice
One of Bjornstad’s students, Michael Kamau, took his civics class last semester, enjoying his class a lot. Kamau learned so much about history and the real world and what has happened, it was a very amazing experience for him. Kamau states that “ I always keep in mind what he told me, effort is free”.
