Although Nicholas Dilitto is not a full-time teacher at Prairie High School, students make it as if he has been their teacher all along. Nicholas Dilitto has always had a large drive and passion to teach, but never a passion for science. He found his love for science in high school, during a lab where he was experimenting with fireworks. In this lab, Dilitto attempted to design different colors that came from the fireworks, sparking further interest in the science field
Nicholas Dilitto started his science endeavors at Clark College. He obtained his associate’s degree in general education and another in science. He furthered his college education at Western Governor University attaining his chemistry and teaching degrees. Soon after he finished his college journey, he decided to come to Prairie and be a substitute teacher. Dilitto loved the Prairie staff, as they were very welcoming and helpful even after his first year
Dilitto fell in love with Prairie and everything that came with being a falcon. He loved the students because they were always working hard and eager to learn. Students were always welcoming to Dilitto and respectful towards him making him feel a sense of community from the Prairie students. Dilitto hopes that all of his students feel safe and welcome in his classroom. Dilitto values his relationship with his students very much and tries to make a deeper connection with each student every day. Dilitto wants all of his students to know that “I’m always here for you in any way possible no matter what you are going through
One of Dilitto’s students, Emilia Arango – Fraly is taking chemistry this year with him as her temporary teacher. Arango-Fraly states that “he is one of my favorite teachers so far¨. She loves that she can understand chemistry so easily due to Dilitto´s teaching style and understanding of nature. Arango-Fraly loves that he constantly makes sure that students are up to date with their work and always asks if they need help. She states that ¨he showed me that you can make anything in life more fun as long as you live life to the fullest with a positive mindset.¨ ¨Seeing his love for the subject makes me enjoy learning it so much more¨. Arango-Fraly appreciates all that he does and is thankful that Dilitto has made chemistry a fun class to be in again.
