A history teacher, Tina Bump, finally found her community at Prairie High School. She started her journey at Clark for one year, then transferred to Western Washington University (WWU), where she graduated. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in history, social studies, and education at WWU. She then secured her master’s degree in education with arts at the City University.
Bump loves the environment that Prairie High School brought to her, allowing her to feel welcomed and invited into the community. She states that “I really enjoy teaching history; it helped me find my people and my community”. She also loved Prairie because her daughters were to Prairie, allowing her to have an idea of the environment she would be walking into. Bump loved that the parents are always involved with their students’ academics. Bump has stayed at Prairie High School for 8 years, teaching a variety of history classes such as World History, U.S. History, Civics, and AP Government.
Bump is proud of many things, but she is especially proud of her daughters’ achieving the very large goal of all attaining their Bachelor’s degrees in neuroscience.
Bump has enjoyed teaching at Prairie High School and feels like the students love her as a teacher. One student in Bump´s class, Emerson VanDeWege, really loves the environment that Bump brings to her class. VanDeWege has AP Government with Bump and loves all the information and knowledge that she gains about the government from her class. She loves the inclusiveness that Bump has in her class, and she “thinks that all teachers should be like that and make sure all students feel included”. VanDeWege loves her AP Government class with Bump and all the useful knowledge she gains, allowing her to shape and make educated decisions in the future.
