Rachel Reid strongly impacts her students every day, changing how they see school altogether. Every day, Reid makes sure her students enter her classroom, Room 601, with a warm welcome making sure every student is acknowledged.
Reid has always had a large drive to accomplish her high school dream of becoming an elementary teacher. Having this large determination from a young age allowed her to attain many academic goals, acquiring two bachelor’s degrees. Reid obtained one bachelor’s degree in biology and one in psychology, then also acquired her master’s degree in teaching – secondary science education, all at Washington State University. Reid spent a total of 7 years in college, making sure she is well educated for whatever pathway she plans to pursue.
Reids’ peak of interest started with teaching biology for many years, followed by background research that drew her attention even more. She started her career at Battleground High School, founding the forensics program then moving to Prairie High School (PHS). She was being offered a job at PHS, not being able to leave the wonderful community the school has to offer. She continued her career at PHS teaching forensics for 4 years and anatomy for 9 years.
Reid loves seeing her students pursue in her classes, making sure that students have all the essentials they need for their future. Reid “enjoys seeing the success of my students”, Reid says as it makes her feel accomplished knowing that she worked hard to get each student to this point. Reid also loves to have a good relationship with every student, and after her 10 years at PHS, Reid has “felt like I have a really good relationship with students.”
Zoe Jensen, one of her top students in Reids’ anatomy class, states that “I have grown closer to Ms. Reid as the school year has gone by” with “I have grown closer to Mrs. Reid as the year goes on”. Jensen admires her consistent teaching ethic and dedication towards her students, allowing for a simpler class so far.
Reid, in her near future, plans to get her National Board Certification, taking two years to accomplish that. Reid plans to use this as a way to recognize herself and become an accomplished educator. Reid plans to stay with PHS for a very long time, not being able to leave the amazing environment and students PHS has to offer.
