Our boys’ basketball team is off to the races after winning two of the three preliminary games, which will send them to the state tournament. The boys faced much adversity throughout the preliminary process due to the sheer number of games thrown at them. First was PHS vs Lakes at home, in which we won 66-11. Then we headed up to Federal Way where we met our match and fell short with a 53-64 loss. This set the Falcons up for two home playoff games which we won both times against White River and Timberline. Carson Morningstar, a junior on the team, speaks on the factors the Falcons have taken towards success, “the biggest factor that led to our success is our team’s hard work during practice, and everyone just caring about the outcome of every game, it ensures we have the desire to win as a team.”
For a team to be successful, they must work together as a team every day at practice, and build close-knit relationships with each other to ensure chemistry on game days. This is exactly what Prairie has built this year, as well as moving forward. The expectation is that everyone gets along enough to play ball. However, the Falcons exceed this, by all being close friends. Jamir Jones, a Sophomore, says “The key to our team’s success is our team being so close to each other, it always us play together at a different level than we have been in previous years. It feels good knowing my teammates got my back.”
On Tuesday, the 24th, the boys will ride to Central Valley High School (Spokane) for their first game of the state tournament. The Falcons are feeling confident and ready for the moment. If they win, they will advance to play Eastside Catholic High School (Seattle), then if they win that, the boys head to the dome for finals. However, both upcoming games are leave or go home, so these games will mean everything for the boys. Riley Burke, Senior, says “were all feel ready and prepared for this moment. We’ve been practicing hard every day for these specific teams, and I think everyone is just excited to get out there and put on a show.” We are all wishing the Boy’s Basketball team the best of luck and success as they head into the first round of the state tournament!
