On December 7th, 2024 Prairie High School girls’ gymnastics team went into their first meet of the season at Vega Gymnastics. These girls started practices in early November to prepare for the season. A first gymnastics meet of the season is always a highly anticipated event, full of excitement and nerves.
This year our gymnastics team has a new coach from past years, which can sometimes be hard for athletes to adjust to. “Throughout the process, we’ve learned on each other and it’s brought us closer as a team,” said Captain Hayden Wojack. Gymnasts are known for being disciplined and self-independent due to their dedication to the sport.
The routines they have practiced countless times are put to the test. Every flip, twist, and turn is executed with precision showing their skills. “Our team was prepared for everything. It’s just the nervousness and it being the first meet of the season that affected our performance,” said Senior Jayden Frazier. The season’s first meet sets the tone for the future, inspiring these athletes to push their limits.
Throughout the meet, the support from teammates and the crowd is very important. Although only 2 girls were able to compete for our team, everyone else came to support and encourage the athletes competing. All around this team showed up and competed with the best skills in every event. No matter the scores, the sense of accomplishment is shared by all.
