Prairie High School has a lot of sports that students get the opportunity to choose from, such as football, basketball, golf, bowling, and others. One of those other sports is wrestling, a sport that Prairie High School has consistently performed well at over the recent years.
November is here, and the new season for boys wrestling at Prairie High School has begun. Most of the time, there aren’t more than 30 players on an average high school team for boys wrestling. Prairie High School used to only have 11 wrestlers on the boys’ team, and that was only three years ago in the 2022 school year. However, Prairie High School isn’t playing around anymore as 50-70 boys are signed up for the team this season.
These boys are being head coached by Rob Smith, along with an additional seven side coaches. Rob is a man with multiple talents, as not only is he the head coach for the boys’ wrestling team, but he’s also an experienced welding and machinery teacher with 20 years of experience. With the help from Rob and the other coaches and the large size of their team, the boys are feeling very confident in their potential for this season. “We as a team hope to win our league and district championship. I feel we’ll get it done,” James Stager, a player on the team said.
The season will last around three months, as it will end in February. They will be facing other various local high schools for the championship title. Some of these include Battle Ground, Evergreen, Heritage, Union, Kelso, and Olympia. There are currently 15 confirmed games to be played this season, five of which are conference games.
Regardless of the pressure, these boys seem rather unphased. “I feel very good so far, there is a ton of potential on the map for the whole team,” claims another player, Christian Dealy. It’s safe to say that Prairie High School is feeling rather confident, and these boys have little to no doubt in their abilities. It will be interesting to see how the season plays out for Prairie and all of the other high schools for that matter.
