Capping off on a fantastic season, Prairie girls volleyball heads to the state tournament at the Yakima Valley SunDome, on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23, after a dominant performance at districts. The volleyball team finished their regular season going 19-3.
The team is headed into districts feeling confident and prepared after practicing day in and day out, going against scout defenses aimed at mirroring the next opponent. Shortly after, the team went 2-1 and placed 3rd in districts. The girls will have a first-round bye before they play the winner of Eastside Catholic vs. Kennewick. They have high hopes of going to the state tournament this week!
To prepare for state, the girls are committing to going to daily practices, where they condition, and run through new lineups every day until they feel perfectly comfortable and ready to crush the competition at state! “we put in the work every day and practice plays against the opposing defenses, that we will be facing until we feel ready.” Claire Neuman, a senior captain, says.
Marissa Raley, a Senior on the team, speaks very highly of this year’s team. It takes a lot of love for the game and love for each other to have a winning tradition such as Prairies volleyball team. “It feels great to win as much as we do. We are expected to uphold the record, so when we succeed it’s so worth all the work we put in.” Raley said when asked what it is like to be on a team with a winning tradition. Raley is a four-year varsity player, in the last three of those years, the team has won the league. It’s the standard.
The Falcons only had one loss during the entire regular season vs Camas. They are a very talented and developed team. The Falcons took a loss against the Papermakers but then came back and beat them the second time around. “When we play Camas, it teaches us that we can compete with teams that play at a really high level and even win if we go into the game with a confident mindset,” Neuman says. The Prairie Falcons girl’s volleyball team ranked third in the state, is ready and prepared to head into state and crush the competition!
