With the shortest fall season, Prairie Boys Golf, led by Michael Rovig, prospered in the 2024 season. The team went 2-6 and ultimately placed 3rd at districts. In this year’s 2024 season, the GSHL has yet to announce if they will be taking two teams or three teams to bi-districts. The team has high hopes to finish strong in the second half of their season in the spring!
Michael Rovig, a team captain of this year’s Varsity Boys Golf team, plays a key role in the fun, and competitive environment of the team. Rovig, being the captain of the team, took on a major leadership role. “It was nice to have all the freshman and sophomores looking up to me, even the upperclassmen respected me which was nice.” Rovig is certainly a great person to look up to. On and off the course.
Rovig battled to keep the team morale up throughout the season. It was a major struggle at times, especially for senior, Rovig, who tries to get the younger kids to love the sport as much as he does. “We were able to overcome a lot of struggles, many people quit a couple of weeks into the season. However, the people that didn’t quit were able to bond even closer to each other.”
Carson Asay, a junior on the team, also greatly contributes greatly to the team. Through Asay’s team spirit and drive, he was able to lead the team to place third in districts. While the season didn’t go as hoped, Asay is optimistic that next year will be different. “I definitely could’ve played better the whole season, but that’s just golf, you can’t always be perfect.” Asay hopes to be the team captain next year and will lead his team to state!
