Once again Prairie High School´s cross country team has a prevailing season advancing to state.
The Falcons lead a strong season becoming the GSHL 3A district champions. Following districts, the boys’ cross country team places 5th place overall at regionals qualifying them for state. This achievement sends 10 runners from the boys cross country team to represent Prairie at Pasco, WA for State including Tommy Wise, Shack Hoyt, Tavin Timperley, Ethan Mckell, Colton Sauter, Augie Leitgeb, Brody Judkins Henry Cass, and last but not least Dekota Houfek. Senior Dekota Houfek has had an impressive High School career specifically placing 2nd at districts and 7th at regionals his 12th grade season alone. He ends his cross country career at Prairie advancing on to state and when asked about his feelings before going Houfek expresses “It´s my last race so kind of scary, kind of sad. It´s bittersweet.”
On the other hand, girls’ cross country placed 10th overall at regionals with two runners proceeding to state, Chloe Copes and Jadyn Conn. Although Jadyn Conn is a Senior, this is her first year running cross country for Prairie. Conn´s hard work is a testament to her impressive times which rewards her with the opportunity to be able to represent Prairie girls cross country at state. “This is such an amazing opportunity I get to experience,” Conn says.
Overall boys cross country does an amazing job at state finishing 15th at state which is the best finish in Prairie High School´s history. Dakota Houfek finishes off his high school career by placing 53rd which is the highest out of all the runners at Prairie. As well as Jadyn Conn and Chloe Copes both individually setting personal records. Altogether Prairie High School´s cross country team had an impressive 2024 season with many triumphant wins, personal records, and strengthened friendships.
