On October 4, 2024, the Prairie High School football team took on Mt.View High School at District Stadium, and it was the homecoming game. Not only did the football team take on Mt.View but it would finally be time to find out who would be crowned homecoming king and queen.
The game got off to a rough start for the Falcons, struggling to score as they fell to a 14-0 deficit against the Thunder in the first quarter. The second quarter provided the Falcons with little success too. Although they were able to put up 14 points of their own Mt.View was able to answer with 13 more of their own. This meant going into halftime Prairie was trailing Mt.View 27-14.
Now at halftime, the football players went to the locker room to refocus for the second half, and the nominees for King and Queen walked out to the 50-yard line. “We really wanted to win as this would make it the fourth year in a row for us,” said senior Ellie Ogle. With the boxes in their hands, all the nominees waited for the signal, and on the count of three, they ripped open boxes to find out who won. Instantly Jackson Grant and Ellie Ogle began jumping up and down as they discovered they had, for the 4th time, won homecoming King and Queen.
After the halftime show had concluded and Jackson and Ellie were crowned it was back to the game. Needing to find a way to claw back and slow down the thunder, Prairie came out into the third quarter with some energy, both defenses were strong making stops for most of the quarter. The quarter ended with Prairie putting up an extra 7 and Mt.View with another 6.
Knowing that the entire school was watching and it was the homecoming game the 4th quarter was prime time for the Falcons. Able to keep the Thunder at bay the entire quature Prairie was able to put up 15 points and come out with the second last-minute win of the season, with a final score of 36-33.
