The 2024-2025 school year has begun, which means so have fall sports. These include Cross-Country, Slow-Pitch Softball, Girl’s Soccer, Girl’s Swimming, Boys Tennis, Boy’s Golf, Cheer, and of course the key players Football and Volleyball.
With the first official games of the season, for football and volleyball, and the books, it’s time to recap the events that took place.
On Saturday, September 7, the Prairie football team took on the Ridgefield Spudders, in a heartbreaking defeat, the Spudders took the win ending in a 48 to 7 final score.
“We were not giving 100% we did not execute plays on offense and defense.” Said senior Riley Burke on what went wrong in the game on Saturday. However, with new intensity at practice, Riley believes if the team plays together, they will have a good shot at winning their next game against Washougal on Friday, September 13.
On the other side of things, the Prairie volleyball team won their first game of the season on Tuesday, September 10. They swept the three-time state champs Columbia River three sets to zero. They then went on to win their second game of the season on Thursday, September 12 beating the Skyview Storm three sets to one.
Senior Marissa Raley says her expectations for the season are “to have a fun season and watch our team grow and also hopefully make it to state again.”
As Riley and the football team looked to find their first win on the 13th and Marissa and the volleyball team strive to keep the streak alive, they’re both excited for what’s to come in their senior seasons of fall sports.
