Culture of Prairie Athletics
Falcon’s athletics has been changing dramatically over the past couple of years. Manny Melo, Prairies Athletic director has made impacts on the culture at Prairie, from finding new coaches to adding a social media page for the Falcons, he likes to describe this as “giving athletes that collegiate feel when they’re at Prairie.”
Melo says his main role at Prairie High School is to oversee all sports and activities, making sure everything is scheduled on time. As well as finding transportation and fundraising. Melo says his vision for Prairie is “to continue to grow the culture leaving an impact on students when they leave here.” Having all coaches bring that energy to the table and provide everything the athletes need to improve is crucial at Prairie.
Since this is Melo’s second year a lot has grown, and many students want to come to Prairie because of what they hear about the school. This has brought a lot of diversity to Prairie. As the school population grows many more things will be added to the experience the students have. The main thing right now is the social media game day posts the athletes love it. Talking with some of the athletes they say it makes them feel at a higher level in their sport. They feel they get more recognition. Many are excited to see what else Prairie Athletics can bring to the table these next couple of years.
