Adrianna Chavez, a senior at Prairie High School, has spent her years here demonstrating remarkable leadership, a commitment to determination, and a successful senior year.
As Adrianna navigates her final year, she has taken on the role of Senior Class President through her involvement in ASB. She first joined the class during her junior year, wanting to be able to “give her input on school events and become a leader.” Throughout her time in ASB, Adrianna has been a part of planning many successful dances and events at Prairie. In her final year, Adrianna has taken on the significant role of Senior Class President, building on her prior ASB involvement. “As class president I get to take input from all of the seniors and plan fun events for us and just overall represent the seniors at PHS,” Adrianna explains. Currently, she is managing and implementing the annual Senior Assasin event, which has come with its own set of challenges. While this role comes with the pressures of planning intricate events and trying to equally represent the whole class, Adrianna has flawlessly executed her role as an outstanding Class President.
Her freshman and sophomore year teacher, Tatiana Stevens, remarks on her journey to becoming the Senior Class President, “I wouldn’t have anticipated it, so she kind of just blew me away when she told me she won.” Stevens has been a mentor for Adrianna, having the biggest impact on her out of all her teachers. “The way she treats her students as equals and is endlessly caring and understanding of me has never gone unnoticed,” Chavez notes, “I will forever thank her for that.” Stevens’ impact on Adrianna has gone beyond the classroom, helping her grow into the spectacular Senior she is today. “She has really come into her own and you can tell she’s settled into who she is and she walks with that confidence,” Stevens commented.
While Arianna has certainly grown into her confident self, that hasn’t always come easy for her. The experience of trying to find your place in the social web of high school is relatable for many high school students and Adrianna was one of those students. “I feel like I’ve faced a lot of challenges,” Chavez explained, “many of them social challenges such as going out of my comfort zone and meeting new people or going for new opportunities.” Adrianna has learned to lean on her close friends during her times of struggle. Many of those closest friends have come from her two years on the JV Volleyball team, the place that she claims has most shaped her into who she is now. “Without that program, I genuinely never would have met any of my current best friends and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it,” Adrianna shared.
The pivotal time on the volleyball team and being involved in ASB have led her to her successful Senior year. Her accomplishments and growth have pushed her to pursue higher education at a local college for two years and after transferring to WSU Pullman to pursue a degree in Pharmacy. As she pushes through the final hurdles of Senior year by “reminding myself of the person I want to be in the future,” she has students and staff alike rooting her on. Stevens believes that Adrianna can accomplish “anything and everything,” stating, “If she told me she wanted to fly planes I’d say “yes you will”. If she told me she wanted to run for President I’d say “yes you will.” Anything she wants to do, she will.”
