This week, we highlight Leo Lopez, an 18-year-old senior whose dedication, talents, and vibrant personality have left a lasting impression on his peers and teachers.
Leo is an active member of the Latino Student Union Club, where he connects with his heritage and supports fellow students in celebrating their culture. But Leo’s passion extends beyond academics and cultural engagement—he’s also a dedicated athlete. Having played soccer on and off for eight years and track for a decade, Leo has shown commitment and perseverance on the field and track.
“Sports have been a big part of my life,” Leo shares. “They’ve taught me discipline and how to push myself to improve every day.”
Leo comes from a close-knit family, including his 20-year-old twin sisters, who have always been his biggest supporters. One of his most cherished memories from high school is reuniting with old friends from middle school like his friends Kaleb Cave and Jackson Grant. “It was nice to get to see my old friends from middle school,” he says. “I didn’t get to see them much throughout Covid.”
When he’s not on the soccer field or track, Leo channels his creative skills into his growing career as a barber. In his free time, he cuts hair for his clients. Leo is a starting barber with a growing clientele. His precision and style have made him a favorite among his friends and community members.
Leo’s hobbies reflect his dynamic personality. Besides soccer and cutting hair, he loves going out with his cousins and friends, making the most of his social connections. Hiking is another passion of his, offering a peaceful break from his busy schedule. “Hiking is really relaxing, and I love the scenery when I hike,” he says.
Through his hard work and community involvement, Leo Lopez is a great student at Prairie High School. As he looks ahead to graduation and the next chapter of his journey, he will persevere in whatever he chooses.
