Since the beginning of 2025’s school year, Prairie High School Administrators announced that they will pass a new phone/headphone policy called, “Bell To Bell No Cell”. There are a few students who don’t really care and aren’t affected by the new policy, but many students are very unhappy about the new phone/headphone policy and believe that the new policy is unfair and too harsh for the students who only listen to music and use their phones for educational purposes.
Why do we even have this phone policy? Is the phone policy even making a difference? Today’s article will be covering over how the phone policy is doing and what students have to say about this. In today’s article, we also have two special guests here to give their thoughts and opinions on the phone/headphone policy. The two special guests are Isaiah Penland and Jayden Flores. We first asked, what was their first thought after finding out about the new phone policy? “To be honest, I wasn’t as upset as I thought I was going to be, but I was very annoyed because I couldn’t listen to music”. Said Isaiah Penland. On the other hand, Jayden said, “I was unhappy because I need my phone to do my school work”.
Obviously there are many students who don’t deserve this policy to be put on them. What ways could the phone/headphone policy be unfair? Isaiah said, “Yes, the policy is unfair, especially for the couple of students who use their phones productively”. Even after students are done with their work, they still can’t go on their phones. Jayden said, “It’s unfair that we have to sit in a class doing nothing while we’re done with our work”. Music is also another major factor to this. “I need music to get me through the day, so please, at least let us have our music”. Said Isaiah.
Some adjustments to the phone/headphone policy could definitely be added, this doesn’t mean that there wouldn’t be a phone policy, but it would make the policy a little more fair for the students. Being able to listen to music and being able to use our phones after we’re done with our work would be really nice. Although the phone/headphone policy sucks, at least it has helped some students get less distracted and has helped students rely on their phones less. Overall, let the students have their music, they need music!!!
