Prairie High School recently hosted an in-school college and career fair, where students can talk to stations with representatives of different businesses, colleges, military branches, and schools. Prairie High School hosts two college and career fairs a year, one of them being an in-school event that takes place every March and one that takes place in the evening every August. This most recent fair on March 12, 2025, held roughly 40 different stations, and about 700 students attended it throughout the couple of hours that the event was held. This event is a great chance for students to find out or at least gain a general idea of what they want to do post-high school.
The army station was a major point of interest, as there was often a crowd of students, mostly boys, gathered around the area. At this station, there was a friendly deadlift competition, where students got the chance to test their strength to earn rewards such as shirts, lanyards, and stickers. WSU had a lot of students waiting in line to talk to their representatives too, as WSU is the state college for Prairie High School. Clark College also held its station, a welding station, where students could experience and learn about welding with other students and the representatives.
“We host this event twice a year because we want to give our students at Prairie High School a chance to explore their possibilities and think about their future. You don’t have to have it all figured out yet in high school, but it is beneficial to ask questions and learn about different opportunities,” exclaims Jenn Miller. This event had a lot of students engaged. There’s a shocking number of students who are anxious about their future, and don’t want to be an adult, so this fair serves as a warm introduction to the adult world for Prairie’s students.
If you have a son or daughter who goes to Prairie High School, you should try to look out for them and help them figure out what they want to be in life. Prairie High School recommends that you take your child to the next fair if you missed this one, as it will take place in August. If you’re a student, it’s a great chance to figure out what you would like to do in life. You don’t have to have it all figured out already, but it’s always a good idea to expand your horizons and keep an open mind.
