Prairie High School students received a very long weekend of five days. From February 13th to February 17th, there was no school. Two of those five days there were two snow days, and one of those five days was President’s Day, making the weekend five days instead of the usual two days. As you can imagine this was a good break for a lot of students, especially since this was the first snow that Vancouver had received this year. This long weekend served somewhat as a part two of Christmas break, so let’s see how Prairie High School students spent their time.
Vancouver received about two inches of snow on Thursday and about another two on Friday. Some students stayed inside while others were sledding, having snowball fights with their peers, building snowmen, and doing other activities. “I live next to a really steep hill, so me and my brother took a couple sleds out and sledded on it for a couple of hours on Friday. We had a blast, and after that we had a snowball fight on the way walking back. My weekend was great, and it felt awesome to unwind from school,” says Prairie senior Mason Wilson.
Some students weren’t as thrilled by the snow. “I love looking at snowfall from inside of my house, but I hate being around or in snow. I’ve never really been a big fan of snow, I’m more into just making a mug of hot chocolate and watching it instead of playing with it. It was nice to have five days off of school though,” says Prairie junior Aiden Gariano.
Overall, I think Prairie High School students spent their long weekend of snow making the most of their time off. It was already going to be a three-day weekend because of President’s Day, but the snow gave students a five-day weekend due to Thursday and Friday being called off as snow days. The only upset with the two snow days is the fact that Prairie High School will have to make up the two days of missed school in June, however, it’s always best to ignore that and just simply enjoy the moment. Regardless of whether some students were out there making snow angels, or if some students were inside all weekend, I think it’s safe to say that everyone enjoyed some time off.
