Prairie High School students get lunch at Winco to save time and money. Spending less money on lunch has helped students manage their finances.
Why do students from Prairie prefer to get lunch at Winco? Most Prairie students find themselves overspending on fast food and school lunches. “The food that Winco has to offer is more affordable compared to fast food restaurants and other grocery stores,” said Isaiah Penland. High school students and young adults tend to overspend on food, especially fast food, and eating out in general. Winco has a wide variety of food and beverages for dirt-cheap prices. “In my opinion, the food at Winco is delicious for its prices,” said Aiden Montgomery. It takes at least five bucks to get a beverage and some food, which is just perfect to get you through the rest of the school day.
Getting lunch at Winco equals less spending and more savings. “I’ve been able to deposit more money into my savings account and I spend less money in my checking account,” Isaiah. You have more freedom with your money when you’re spending less on food “Spending less money on lunch made it easier for me to manage my finances,” said Aiden. When getting lunch at Winco, Isaiah will usually get two pizza sticks and for the beverage, a coconut Red Bull, which costs him under five dollars. Aiden said, “I always get a pretzel bun sub-sandwich and a Red Bull.” The line at Winco does get a little crazy sometimes. Waiting in the self-check-out lane isn’t a problem, but it depends on how much stuff people are buying. “To be honest with you, it also depends on how fast we get off campus because we usually have to wait behind a line of cars if we don’t take off fast enough,” Aiden said. Sometimes people will have some errors with the self-check-out systems and they have to call over an employee for assistance.
In many other stores and gas stations, drinks seem like they have been up-charged. For example, at a Chevron just one mile away from Prairie High School, they are selling Arizona for over a dollar. Arizona teas are normally sold for 99 cents, while at Winco one Arizona only costs you about 68 cents. “The average energy drink costs me about three to four dollars in most places, but at Winco, I can purchase an energy drink for one to two dollars for the same sized drink If you are buying multiple drinks though, a grocery store or a wholesale store would be the better option for shopping, because they usually have great deals that you can take advantage of. Overall, students from Prairie go to Winco to get their money’s worth.
