As the winter and holiday season approaches, Prairie is gearing up for a much-needed break and a highly anticipated Winter Assembly on Dec 20! With preparations in full swing, this annual event is set to bring staff, students, and teachers together to celebrate the festivities and show off our spirit at Prairie!
The assembly will kick off at 1:45, beginning with the routine presentation of the flags and the National Anthem. This will be followed by performances by both the dance and cheer teams. After that, our clubs and activities will be showcased and recognized, and HOSA will present the winners of the ongoing Canned Food Drive. For the remainder of the assembly, there will be a handful of fun games to participate in.
Our ASB Winter Assembly Committee along with ASB Advisors, Danaka Ross, and Oliver Root have been working tirelessly since Nov. 18 to make this assembly a success. Typically planning such a complex event is thought to be left to the adults and advisors, however, this year almost everything was left up to the students. “We provide an outline of things that need to be done,” shared Ross, “and they (ASB Winter Assembly Committee) come up with the games, reach out to people, and are the ones doing it all which is really great to see.” With former student-led assemblies having great success we are anticipating yet another engaging and enjoyable assembly.
One of the main goals of this assembly is to remind our student body of how strong of a community we have at Prairie. This assembly will serve as a great way for us to “come together, dress up and cheer on people from your grade, have some friendly competition, kind of make fools of ourselves, and have a fun time right before the break,” said Ross. All of our students come from unique and diverse backgrounds and we all do different things. Our assembly is an important reminder that we are still a community within Prairie no matter your background. “Whether you play a sport, are in a club, you don’t play a sport, or you’re not in a club, we are all a community,” said Winter Assembly Committee Lead, Avery Hoskins, “at the end of the day, we can still come together and have fun.”
The Winter Assembly will be held in the main gym on Friday, Dec. 20 at 1:45 p.m. following 6th period so make sure to dress up in your grades’ color, be ready to participate in and appreciate the hard work that the members of ASB have put in to make this assembly an amazing experience, and prepare for lots of fun and festivities before Winter break!
