As winter break approaches on Friday, students at Prairie High School are excited for the Holidays. With the holidays come holiday traditions, which can involve doing an activity with family, friends, or a significant other.
As the holidays slowly start to get closer Kaidence Ford, a senior at Prairie is excited to enjoy some good food during the holidays as her holiday tradition. Typically Kaidence eats regular food like rice, turkey, ramen, bean burritos, and nachos but not for the holidays. The holidays are a good time to enjoy special food “Every year, my uncle makes mashed potatoes, twice mashed. For Christmas and Thanksgiving only.” Says Senior Kaidence. Her tradition is spent on Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family members coming together at the dinner table and enjoying food.
Although many holiday traditions are spent with their families, that is not always the case. One couple at Prairie has recently started a new tradition for the day after Christmas. “We hang out on the 26th for our yearly anniversary and give each other our presents instead of Christmas.” Says junior Itzel Contreas Montiel. Itzel Contreas Montiel and her boyfriend Deven Vigue started this tradition last year when they first started dating. This tradition is just beginning but has many more years to celebrate. Itzel Contreas Montiel and Deven Vigue look forward to participating in this tradition again this year, getting ready to spend the whole day together eating, opening presents, and spending quality time together.
Traditions are very important at Prairie as students look forward to spending time with loved ones doing what they deem as a special event, only happening during the holidays.
