Prairie looks to start a new tradition of an Inter-club food drive to strengthen and unite clubs around a common goal of benefiting the community.
The Inter-club Food Drive runs from November 12 to December 20. This is the first event that involves multiple clubs, including HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), BSU (Black Student Union), HLSU (Hispanic Latino Student Union), NHS (National Honors Society), Multicultural Club, Key Club, and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Boxes are set in the classrooms, the commons, the library, and the main office to collect non-perishable food items to donate to the Clark County Food Bank.
This food drive is set up as a friendly competition between clubs. Every club is responsible for advertising their boxes to gain donations towards their clubs. Each item of food that equals a meal counts as a point towards the club. The club with the most amount of food donated wins! Payton Blunt who is part of the leadership cabinet of HOSA, and one of the head organizers of this event, expresses ¨we want to hopefully contribute to help food insecurity, especially for Clark County ¨. Not only is this food drive supportive of our local community, but it also acts as a way for clubs to collaborate and gain recognition to their club. Host advisor, Melissa Levine expresses how ¨getting clubs together around a common cause¨ is an overarching goal.
Prairie plans for this event come back as a tradition yearly with a great turnout. Anyone can participate by donating non-perishable foods or spreading the word!
