Prairie High School holds its annual Trunk-or-Treat on Nov. 30 in the school’s parking lot. Multiple school clubs decorate trunks for local children and families to trick-or-treat and donate socks to their favorite trunks. All socks collected by Prairie go to local foster children.
Today, many families prefer trunk-or-treat events over traditional neighborhood trick-or-treating. These events offer convenience, allowing children to trick-or-treat in one location without traveling long distances. Many parents also appreciate that events like Prairie’s Trunk-or-Treat support charitable causes, creating incentives for families and school clubs to participate.
Prairie High School sees a strong turnout of families and clubs each year. Students in the Associated Student Body organize the Trunk-or-Treat annually. This year, senior Efe Otoikhian leads the Trunk-or-Treat committee, managing event planning and publicity.
“Many kids and their families came, and we raised a lot of socks for local foster kids,” Otoikhian says.
Clubs also enjoy the event. Senior Avery Hoskins decorates the National Honor Society’s trunk with a Sesame Street theme and says, “I was surprised how many people came, even though the weather wasn’t the best.”
Despite the weather, Prairie sees a great turnout.
Schools and organizations across the U.S. host similar trunk-or-treat events in their communities, and Prairie looks forward to continuing this tradition each year.
