On March 16th from 7 to 10 Prairie high school’s annual Spring Fling dance was held. But behind the scenes, Senior Claire Smith dedicated so much time to planning the event. We spoke to Claire Smith to dive deeper into the details of the planning that goes into setting up these events.
Event planning begins anywhere from 2-4 months beforehand. Some of the responsibilities are planning budgets, client communication, creating a theme, and decorating.
According to Claire, when being asked how the students pick the theme for the dance, she replied “Our committee initially picks out about 5 theme ideas after students send in their ideas on Instagram… we then post a Google form for the school to vote, and that’s how we get our theme.” It’s a very interactive experience for all the students and faculty who want to participate.
A commonly asked question is about where the money goes from buying dance tickets. Once purchased that money is then redistributed to the ASB committee, then stored away for future dances. Claire comments how thankful they are ¨to have made so much profit from previous dances that we were able to have a big budget for the Spring Fling, which helped with all the decorations.”
The last question and the most significant, asking Claire if she has any information on Prom, the biggest dance of the year. It’s not just a dance, it’s an experience of a lifetime, Claire says “Prom is a little different, Seniors aren’t allowed to know info or plan prom so that it’s a surprise for us.” With how well spring fling said as planned, we can expect an amazing prom. Juniors and Seniors check out Prairie’s Instagram account as well as watch the morning announcements for more details to come about Prom.
We are so lucky to have amazing ASB reps who dedicate so much time to making amazing events for students and staff. We look forward to what’s to come.
