If you were busy on October 21st, all I can say is you missed out on Prairie High School’s 2023 Haunted Homecoming. ASB (Associated Student Body) Advisor and Homecoming Court give feedback on the dance held in the school’s main gym and commons area.
Prairie’s ASB Advisor, Danaka Ross, has taught here for five years, and been the head of ASB for three years. When asked what her favorite part of Homecoming was, the “high attendance and responsibility of students” at the dance, and “matching with Ms. Schiller every day” during spirit week was her response.
On Friday, October 20th, seniors Felicity Heid and Alijah Machida were voted in and crowned Homecoming court at the football game during halftime. While interviewing Felicity, she definitively stated that “dancing with friends” was her most enjoyable memory of the dance. Homecoming lasted from 7 pm to 10 pm, where Prairie hosted a DJ, tables throughout the gym and a backdrop for group photo opportunities.
The theme: Haunted Hoco, voted on by PHS students, seemed to be appreciated by all. You couldn’t miss the spooky-related decorations set up and planned by members of ASB. A ton of work was put into the organization of Homecoming. “Outside of my work day, I spend anywhere from 3-5 hours a day, every day [planning] for the few weeks leading up to a dance,” Advisor Ms. Ross said.
If you didn’t attend this event, you’re probably wondering if everything went as intended. The only complaint Felicity had was that there was “not enough water”. That about sums it up! Ross stated, “Overall, everything went smoothly considering we had four events in two days” (spirit week, assembly, football halftime show, and dance).
If you haven’t figured it out already, the annual PHS Homecoming was a hit.
