Senior year college applications are done, decisions are made, but now comes the work that decides the next year of a senior’s life—choosing their classes. This past Friday, April 11, I attended the Carroll College Admitted Students Class Registration event to plan my upcoming freshman year classes.
In the weeks leading up to the event I meticulously researched classes that helped shape a Biology/Pre-Medicine major with the help of Carroll´s provided 4-Year-Plan for each major to help prepare me. With a 12 credit requirement for being on the soccer team and a 14 credit requirement for graduating on time, it was necessary to find a schedule that both met the criteria and was manageable for my first semester as both a college student and athlete.
Upon arriving on campus to check in, we were greeted by a welcoming atmosphere of students and staff. The day’s agenda consisted of a student and parent schedule with a rotating schedule of a Trolley Tour of Helena, a Housing and Food plan presentation, and an experience of some of the campus clubs such as the Swing Dancing, Spike Ball, and Board Game clubs.
After lunch with faculty and staff, we received a quick degree requirement overview presentation before heading to our major-specific classrooms to begin scheduling our classes. In each classroom, some professors taught classes involved in the major and guided us on how to navigate the platform and schedule our classes. Professors and current students in our majors helped us navigate the scheduling platform, ensuring we chose classes that best suited our needs and schedules. It was an especially new experience getting to choose what class you wanted to take based on the time the class was and who was the professor for that particular hour. Students and staff waited outside each classroom ensuring that each student received celebratory cheers, a
¨Carroll College Future Saint¨ yard sign, and a mystery coupon for the Saints Gift shop after completing your registration.
The Carroll College Admitted Students Class Registration event wasn’t just registration; it was a launchpad into a successful college journey that provided expert assistance and an invaluable experience navigating the complexities of course selection. The informative presentations, interactions with future students, personalized guidance, and a supportive community environment combined to create a fun and welcoming process launching each student into a new chapter in their lives.
