Carson Morningstar, a Junior for the Prairie varsity boys basketball team, shines bright early on in the season. Morningstar is a 6’8 center and is also the team captain. He averages 24.6 points a game, which puts him at the top of the leaderboard as the number-one scorer in the Greater Saint Helens league for 3A and 4A. Currently, the team is 6-3 and 1-0 in the GSHL league. The boys have high hopes this season to take home the league title!
Morningstar, being the team captain of this year’s team, has a big role. He must set the appropriate example by giving full effort at every practice and putting on a show during games. It’s safe to say that Morningstar has no problem meeting these expectations. Riley Burke, a senior on the team says, “Carson’s biggest impact on the team is his leadership, as well as his ability to score many times, which keeps the team morale high.” Morningstar knows all of his teammates off the court as well as on, this is one of the things that is helping the boys play at a high level.
There is more than just one star on the team however, Malachi Patton has been a major scorer this season, as well as Jamir Jones. They are a very exciting duo to watch on the court. Morningstar says “My favorite memory of the season thus far is when Malachi got a huge dunk against Skyview. The whole team was super hype, and I’m excited to see more from him in the future.” The team is looking strong this year, and we are all super excited to see them prosper for the rest of their season!
